Danyah Miller in Michael Morpurgo’s I Believe in Unicorns
Edinburgh Festival Fringe
I believe in Unicorns is set in a library full of books, that hold more than stories within their pages. It is a tale of the power of books that change lives, and the bravery of a boy called Tomas. Tomas loves playing in the moutains where he lives, and he hates reading and school; but his life is turned upside down the day he visits the local library and he meets the Unicorn Lady….
Buddy was really excited to go along to this, he loves Michael Morpurgo having read his book, War Horse, at school. When we got to the venue, we sat down and the storyteller, Danyah Miller was walking around chatting to people, welcoming them, asking them what their favourite books were as children. Immediately, we were excited to be there.
The show lasted 60 minutes and captivated our attention right from the start. Danyah was full of energy, telling a story in a wonderful way that drew the crowd right in. She interacted with the crowd, making us feel part of the story. With the use of lights and projectors, the stage was brought alive showing the story in a very visual way.
The show was wonderful for both children and adults. The winners of the family pass thoroughly enjoyed it too, if you get the chance to go along and see it, it is well worth it. Danyah was a wonderful storyteller and we will look out for her in the future.
After the show, Danyah popped outside and thanked every child, let them stroke the beautifully carved unicorn and spoke to everyone. A really lovely gesture, the children were so excited to tell her all about their favourite books and how much they enjoyed the show.
The show runs from 31st July – 26th August at 10:30
Tickets £6.50, £8.50 , £10, £11
