I’m not going to lie, I love ragu and I often make it from scratch – it’s a staple in our house, but sometimes there is just ‘that’ night – Usually once a week for us just now with the boys activities, that you get to cooking dinner and realise that there is no time to slave over the hob, or even sort out the Instant Pot.
Well that’s why Dolmio are working on the #ThankGoodness campaign, as a busy mum of two hungry boys, I can vouch for feeling like I’d been saved – It only takes 20 minutes to cook (but if you have got longer, I do like to cook it for longer) and with 76% of the jar being tomatoes and 11% tomato paste, I really think this is something that every home should have. Not only that but it’s also 1 of your 5 a day! I used to find that the sauce was too sweet, but the development chefs at Dolmio have worked on this and now only 0.4% of the jar is added beet sugar. It’s like your fish fingers in the freezer, once you use it, you should get a new one, just in case.
My boys wolf down Spaghetti Bolognese so I know that there will be clean plates – The always ask for seconds too! I didn’t tell them that when I made it, the lovely people at Dolmio had given me extras in my delivery to I also added in grated carrot (which pretty much disappears during the cooking) and also some mushrooms. This was the most surprising thing, neither of them batted an eyelid and ate the whole lot.
We either freeze the rest for the next week or make a lasagne out of the rest and have that with potato wedges.
There are so many more things you can do with the sauce too, from adding to chicken and making a chicken pasta bake or using on a naan bread as a pizza topping then adding cheese and hot dogs (well the hot dogs are the boys choice) only take 10 mins and taste lovely – great for an easy weeknight meal.
