I am pretty sure this was February / March 2000 that I travelled to New York – I had gone to meet up with a friend who was up for an award for her designs. It happened to coincide with my Step Sister having a flat in New York which she let me crash in as she was back in London (I think!)
It was an excellent flat – really central. There was a knock at the door on the first night and the lady from the flat downstairs came along to say hello and did I want to come out with her for a drink. I thought this was really nice, but I had plans, so I politely declined. I did watch her leave the building, with a feather boa and looked really glam – I left about an hour later. I later found out that lady in the flat downstairs was Laura Linney – I was kind of gob smacked and wished that I had gone out on the town. This is the picture of the tenenment that Alex stayed in
The trip itself was amazing, I’d never seen so many amazing things, the shops were fantastic, I stood at the bottom of the Twin Towers, looking up towards the sky, they were so tall!
I also maxed a credit card – It was therapy, my father had died not long before and I was to inherit a little bit of cash, so what is £2,500 on some clothes and a handbag – Yes, welll nowadays, that would not be spent on those things, but at the time, it was required 🙂
Please take part in my link up for #throwbackthursday I’ll retweet all using the hashtag.
